The Marriage Guide

It is good to know that marriage has existed longer than any other aspects of humanity. It is also worth appreciating that we owe our very existence to the originality of marriage itself. Marriage is unique not only because it was the very first form of human interaction but because it is the only smallest union that completes humanity with the natural potential for complementation and procreation.

In marriage the man and the woman complete humanity in the smallest possible unit without discriminating against either gender but recognizing the natural role of both husband and wife. It is a privilege to behold a formula that sets a foundation for harmony and dignity in this guide for marriage.

In Genesis 1:26 it is stated "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

The statement in Genesis 2:22 is a bold one that confirms the completion of humanity. "And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man."

The simple marriage guide that serves as a very useful scriptural commandment can be briefly elaborated in the following script. Ephesians 5:22 and 1st Peter 3:1 encourage the adherence to this marriage guide. Wife first SUBMITS to her husband who then has no option but must LOVE his wife.

WIFE

• Accepts her husband's authority

• Blesses him physically and spiritually which means to help him and pray for him.

• Follow him which means to allow him lead to the place of safety or abundance.

This completes the perfect wife who is the height of beauty to her husband. The beauty of a woman may be physical but the beauty of a wife is definitely not physical.

HUSBAND

• Listens to her about hopes, concerns and observations.

• Appreciates her

• Bless her physically and spiritually

• Give her gifts including himself as a gift to her

• Fellowship with her physically and spiritually

A husband whose wife submits to him can only be a husband of honour when he fulfills this duty to love his wife. The wife that submits to her husband gives him the privilege to attain this honour for without her submission to him, he cannot fully achieve this status of husband of honour even if he be a perfect man by himself.
